The cheek surgery is an operation which changes the basic shape and balance of the patient face via shaped implants applied to build up cheekbones, or reshape the jaw line.
This surgery is adviced for those persons with obvious lack of volume of cheek, due to genetic conditions or an accident circumstances to whom implants would certainly add body and contour to cheeks that lack definition.
Individuals with weak cheek structure, a narrow or flat face, or who have lost cheek contour due to the effects of age can benefit from the aesthetic enhancement that cheek augmentation can provide.
An internal pocket right in front of each cheek bone or a little below of them, is made, and the implants are placed in. They can be attached to the bone with screws, to the muscle with sutures or simply remain in their place by internal pressure of the pocket. Stitches used to close the incision are removed in about 10 days.
Temporary discomfort may be felt, swelling, bruising, numbness and/or stiffness. In jaw surgery, inability to open mouth fully for several weeks.
It is possible to return to sedentary work in about one week. The normal appearance will need two to four weeks to show up. Meanwhile, It should be avoided vigorous exercise and some activities which could bump the face for no less than 6 weeks.
The practice of medicine and surgery is not an exact science. Although this operation doesn't have practically any type of side-effects some of the risks and potential complications that can occur are infection, fluid accumulation, changes in skin sensation, skin discoloration and/or swelling, etc
